The Ultimate Travelers Day Dream Come True

Expert Article By: Rick Chapo

More than a few times, I?ve caught myself sitting at work day dreaming about dropping everything and just jumping on a plane. In October of 2003, I did just that.

Life can grind you down when you get in a rut. In my case, I had a particularly bad case of the blues in October 2003. My girlfriend and I had apparently come to an agreement that there was no need for me to exist on the face of the earth. My glamorous and exciting Internet business had become a bore. All and all, I was in a rut and needed a change. The travel gods apparently agreed.

On a Wednesday, I made the final decision to sell my business, get what I could for it and hit the road. The next day, I received a call from a man in Chicago what wanted to buy my web sites. This was particularly interesting since I hadn?t actually told anyone the sites were for sale. By the end of the day, we had agreed on a price, signed a contract and he was wiring the money.

First thing Monday morning, my bank verified the wired money had been received and credited to my bank account. I picked up a couple of American Express checks, packed a small backpack and headed to the airport in Los Angles, known as ?LAX?.

The Dream Comes True

I walked into the international wing of LAX and did what every traveler has dreamed of doing. I stared at the flight board and just let the various destinations soak into my brain. After a few minutes, Asia percolated to the top of my grey matter and I started searching for the airlines with flights there.

After a few misses, I was able to get a ticket on a Korean Airlines flight to Bangkok. I passed through security, picked up a guidebook for Asia and headed to my gate. Three hours later, we lifted off the runway and I waived goodbye to rut for three months.

I?ve disdained heavy planning for my trips. I prefer a very loose schedule because I want time to live out unexpected events. If you ever get the chance to chuck everything and go travel for a few months, just do it. You never know when you?ll get the chance again!

Open Question: What college major is best for me? Help please?

Ok, so I'm a senior and incoming college student next year. I'm still undecided! I know many college majors requires math, and those are the majors that are high paying ones. I HATE MATH!!! I try to love it, but I just really can't. My mind is hard to pick up those math problems. I wish I was a smart one. :( My sister suggest business, but I'll tell you, I'm no business minded. HRM? Ummm, idk. My interest is in travelling. That makes Tourism as my 2nd choice. I also excell in history, but I don't want to be a history teacher. I also love chemistry, but I hate math. My first choice was international studies major in european studies. What do you think about that? I want to be a stewardess or a cruise worker someday, but I wanna try diff courses that has a language subject on it. That's why tourism was my 2nd one and IS as my 1st. (but also think tourism is an ovrrated one.) please help? No rude comments please. 10 points for best!! :)

Open Question: Thinking of Getting Personal Assistant Service?

Personal Assistant Service For a budding entrepreneur looking for a new line of business, putting up a Online Virtual Assistant service can be a good way of earning money. A personal assistant is someone who assists on daily business and personal tasks, and they usually do scheduling, travel arrangements, and research. Some personal assistant services also feature shopping and personal styling. As a home based task, this career path is great for people with a great sense of organization and innate desire to help. So, how does one get started? AS with all things, check for the demand in your immediate locality. Most of the clientele who use a personal assistant service are upper middle class and up, so if the demographics in your area are against you, you may want to consider making your service an online or virtual one. Draw up a list of virtual assistant companies that you are willing to offer, and think about pricing. You may want to scope out the competition so you have an idea of the service list and pricing range you can offer. Open Question: Which language should I learn first?

First and foremost I'm a language fanatic! I absolutely love learning foreign languages, and it's definitely a passion of mine. I took two years of both Spanish and French in high school. I ultimately decided I wanted to study both, however I chose to study Arabic in college and I will be studying it until I become fluent. ( I'm done with one full year of Arabic ) Now I'm ready to start learning another language on top of learning Arabic. I'm thinking French first and then Spanish, many of my classmates are telling me French. I want to work in business, I want to travel and I want to live in a bigger city in the United States. Which language do you think will be best for me to learn while learning Arabic? And/Or which language do you feel I should learn first? * I realize that French and Spanish are familiar languages which is why I chose not to study them together.

Open Question: Maryland Officers' Opinion on Emergency Vehicle Lights?

I am a authorized dealer for Feniex Industries, which for those who do not know, is a major US manufacturer for emergency vehicle lighting such as for the police, fire department, and ambulances. To display and show my companies work, we have a marked Dodge Charger with our business decals on the side, specifically saying what we do. Since we do travel to different places, such as the 2012 Police Security Expo in Atlantic city, we'll be driving through a few different states. Some states it is a major crime to even have a blue light on your car. Our cars are equipped with Red, Blue lights and sirens and we are permitted to do by our state. I have read up on Maryland's POV laws and regarding as such, it's illegal to have anything other than amber lights on your vehicle. My question is, if you as an officer were to pull us over in your state, what would be the outcome be? Would we be allowed to pass through your state legally? I ask because it would be very difficult to avoid states like Maryland in our transport and the lights are permanently mounted and cannot be removed. Thanks for all the help! There is no light bar, they are clear undercover LEDs. As far as I am concerned, the only thing I'd be able to do is duct tape them. Because as far as I know, my manufacturer does not make covers for them. Not only that, but there are states where you cannot even have a blue light in your vehicle unless its secure in its original package or locked in the trunk. Covering would not solve that situation.

Resolved Question: Career: Business or Pre-med?

In all seriousness I know that there is no such thing as a perfect job but I want to get as close to perfect as possible. The last thing I want to do is regret making a decision. Throughout High School I was always contemplating between being a business major or something in the medical industry. Honestly, both appeal to me equally. So I was hoping someone could help me on my decision. If I go for business I want to do something that will earn me alot of money, I honestly don't mind working long difficult hours as long as the job isn't repetitive (like an accountant). My best subject is math and that happens to be my favorite subject along with chem. Speaking of Chem brings up my next intended job. I wanted to go in the Pre-med path because there are so many options if I do. I could be a dentist, a dermatologist, etc, etc. Or I could just ditch the pre-med path and go with being a nurse. I like to travel so I think business suits me well I also like Fashion and working for companies like LG, samsung, chase, shisedo, etc etc. I am pretty diverse when it comes to my desires so sorry if I'm starting to get confusing. I honestly do not know what to choose, so someone please help me!!! If someone could list the pros and cons of each or if someone who has a job in this category could give me information/advice I will be more than grateful, thank you!
